Recycling made simple.
1) Know what to throw.
Many glass, metal, plastic, and paper items are recyclable but there are some exceptions. Scroll down to learn more about what is recycle or check out the detailed list of accepted items on Rumpke’s website.
2) Rinsed & ready.
Rumpke asks that recycling items be rinsed and crushed where possible. There is no need to remove labels.
3) Never bag it.
Our local recycling center uses a single stream system meaning that all items go through the same system that automatically separates them.

Don’t Recycle:
Plastic Bags, Toys, or Containers
Single use food containers (including ‘clamshell’ containers), toys, and plastic bags, even if they have a recycling symbol, are not accepted by our local recycling center. Plastic bags are accepted at most Krogers in designated containers, and toys that are not at the end of their usable life can be donated.
Batteries, Electronics, or Scrap Metal
Improperly disposed batteries and electronics can cause fires and other problems at our recycling center. Both batteries and electronics can be recycled at Best Buy stores. Other locations to recycle scrap metal, batteries, or electronics can be found at butlercountyrecycles.org.
Food or Yard Waste
Food and yard waste decompose naturally and are not handled by Rumpke. These items should be thrown away or composted. You can learn more about composting at home, including tips on what not to put in your compost pile, from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Do Recycle:
Plastic Bottles & Jugs
Any bottle or jug that has a mouth smaller than its base can be recycled. This includes items like milk jugs, soda bottles, laundry detergent bottles, water bottles, shampoo bottles and contact solution bottles.
Cartons
Food and beverage cartons for milk, orange juice, soup, wine, and broth are all recyclable. For these items, please remove plastic caps and straws.
Glass Bottles & Jars
Rumpke can take glass bottles and jars of all shapes, sizes, and colors. This includes items like glass soda bottles, pickle jars, wine bottles, and kombucha bottles. The one exception to this is drinking glassware.
Cans
Aluminum, steel, and empty aerosol cans can all be recycled. For empty aerosol cans, please remove plastic tips and lids.
Paper & Cardboard
Just about all paper products are eligible for recycling including newspaper, magazines, cardboard, office paper, envelopes, paperboard, telephone books, and pizza boxes. Items saturated with grease should not be recycled.
